What is a Work Permit?
The Work Permit is a work pass issued by the relevant authority for semi-skilled foreign workers in approved sectors such as construction, manufacturing, marine, process and services. Employers must operate within a sector-specific foreign worker quota, pay a monthly levy for each Work Permit holder, and hire only from the approved source countries for that sector. The pass is generally tied to a specific employer, and renewal depends on continued eligibility — including quota availability and up-to-date levy payments — at the time of renewal.
